JERSEY CITY, New Jersey - The Marist volleyball team (9-6, 2-2 MAAC) won its third match in its last four contests, sweeping Saint Peter's with set scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-13 on Sept. 27.
Freshman Mackenzie O'Brien had the best performance of her young career with a stat line of eight kills, nine digs and a match-high four service aces. Senior Kelsey Lahey slammed 14 kills while junior libero Lexi Millington chipped in 19 digs.
Marist erased a four-point deficit in the opening set after a Liz Gassman service ace tied the score at 5. Saint Peter's went up by two again, but the Red Foxes took 11 of the next 16 points to earn the early edge.
The second set was decided by long scoring runs. Even a 6-0 scoring spree by Saint Peter's did not deter the Red Foxes, as they responded with a 6-1 run while junior Devon Dawson was serving. Marist continued to keep the Peacocks' defense on its toes with 19 kills in the final set, seven of which came from Lahey.
Saint Peter's junior setter Kaitlyn Sitton finished with 20 assists and a pair of service aces to lead her team in both categories.
Marist owned a 69-47 advantage in digs and had eight service aces. The Peacocks hit just .120 for the match.
The Red Foxes continue Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a 1 p.m. matchup at Canisius on Oct. 3.
