BUFFALO, New York – A goal by Brandon Curtis with just over eight minutes remaining gave the Marist men's soccer team a 2-1 win over the Canisius Golden Griffins. Curtis' header found the bottom right corner off a feed from Connor Shearer for the game winner.

"A massive three points on the road. Both teams had chances to score and didn't capatalize but I think we deserved the result" said head coach Matt Viggiano. "It was nice to see us show some guts on the road. We're picking up wins with contributions from a lot of diferent places so it was a good team and a massive three points on the road."

With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 7-4-1 (2-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) while the loss drops Canisius to 5-6-1 (1-2-1 MAAC).

Marist held a 22-21 advantage in shots while the Golden Griffins held a 12-9 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams had three corner kicks on the afternoon.

Cameron Harr scored his career high 11^th goal of the season, Curtis scored his second goal of the year and second in three games, Connor Shearer picked up his first assist of the season and Mark Rajovic finished with a career high 11 saves.

The Red Foxes opened the scoring early as just over two minutes into the game, Harr stole the ball from a Canisius defender at the top left corner of the box and fired a shot that found the far side of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Less than six minutes later, Marist had a second golden scoring chance. An errant pass from a Golden Griffins defender was stolen by Harr just outside the box. Harr dribbled several more yards and then fired a shot toward the bottom left but the Canisius goalie just got his hands on it and deflected it wide.

Roughly five minutes later, the Golden Griffins evened the score when several passes inside final third of the field found Mathew Santos on the right sideline. Santos then found an open Mo Kretschmer at the top right corner of the box and his shot just skimmed off the hands of Mark Rajovic and into the goal for the 1-1 tie.

The Red Foxes nearly regained the lead again shortly after when a pass by Michael Lorello from the top right corner of the box found a wide open Samad Bounthong just to the back left of the penalty spot. Bounthong tried a one touch shot back across the goal but misfired and the ball sailed well high.

The half continued to feature back-and-forth action. With a little more than 15 minutes left in the half, a Canisius pass found an open player inside the six yard box but Rajovic was able to step up big and stuff the point blank chance. The inherent clear was repossessed by the Golden Griffins and a cross found the head of a Canisius player and was redirected into the back of the net but the line judge's flag was up for offside and the goal was disallowed.

Marist had several more chances early in the second half. Just a few minutes in, a shot by Kevin Kappock on the right side was saved. Harr was in good position for the rebound but couldn't find a shot.

Shorly after, Simon Lund Jorgensen possessed the ball on the top left of the box and found a streaking Connor Shearer on the right side but his shot was saved by the Golden Griffins goalie to keep the score tied.

Canisius had their own chance a few minutes later. A shot from the middle of the field glanced off a Red Fox defender and up into the air before Rajovic grabbed it out of the air and made a great save, keeping the ball out of the net as his momentum carried his body across the goal line.

With roughly 20 minutes remaining in regulation, Kappock had a second shot, this from the left side that was just deflected off the cross bar at the last second by the Golden Griffins goalie.

Canisius answered right back with two chances, the first off a corner kick that found an open head but Rajovic was there for the save. Shortly after, the Golden Griffins found space down the left side of the box and fired a shot that was again saved by Rajovic.

With less than eight minutes remaining, Marist regained the lead as Michael Lorello found Connor Shearer on the right sideline who spotted a streaking Curtis inside the box and found him with a beautiful cross that Curtis calmly headed into the bottom right corner of the goal for the 2-1 lead.

Canisius pressed for the equalizer but the Red Fox defense stood strong, jumping passing lanes and intercepting balls to keep the ball on the offensive side of the field.

Harr, nearly gave Marist a third goal with less than a minute to play as he found space down the left side but his shot from the top left corner of the box was saved.

One last push by the Golden Griffins was cleared away and time expired with the Red Foxes victorious 2-1.
