BRONX, New York – The Marist men's swimming and diving team fell to Fordham, 138-103, in a non-conference dual meet Oct. 20.
Junior Peter Gallino scored 18 points for the Red Foxes with a pair of victories on the diving boards. He racked up 256.87 points at one meter and his 324.00 points at three meters exceeded the qualifying score for the NCAA Zone A Qualifier Championships. Gallino will compete in the national postseason meet in March. Freshman Raislan Aiken came in right behind Gallino in both events, scoring 253.12 points and 281.47 points for second place.
At short distance freestyle, sophomore Daniel Knoll came in second at 50- (21.96 seconds) and 100 yards (46.78 seconds). Marist went 2-3 in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle. Sophomore Miguel Madeira touched second in the 200 (1:42.64) and third at 500 (4:47.90) in the races. In the same two events, senior Ryan Murphy came in third (1:45.92) and second (4:45.16) respectively.
In his second collegiate meet, freshman Evan Nilsson clocked in at a second place time of 9:48.66 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and ranked third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.38).
Marist's 400-yard freestyle relay squad of Murphy, Nilsson, sophomore Gregory Violette and Madeira concluded the meet with a season best time of 3:10.16. The foursome took the top spot.
The Red Foxes will host the five-time defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Rider Broncs at 6 p.m. Oct. 29.
