PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island -- The Red Foxes fell to the #4 University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors 10-6 on Sunday in the Brown Bruno Classic. The loss drops Marist to 2-5 (0-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) while the win brings Hawaii to 10-1 (0-0 Big West).
Junior Amanda Amorosa led the Red Foxes with two goals, one assist and one field block. Junior Jocelyn McQuade had two goals and freshman Susan Cantoni had one goal and one assist. Freshman goalie Hope Vickers saw her first action of the season, coming into the game in the second quarter and playing the remainder of the game with four goals against and two saves.
The Rainbow Warriors quickly gained the early lead with four goals in the first quarter. McQuade scored for the Red Foxes to narrow the deficit to 4-1 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was a little more even as Hawaii again found the back of the net four times but McQuade, Cantoni and senior Brooke Else scored for Marist to make the score 8-4 at the half.
The Red Foxes stepped up defensively in the second half, conceeding only one goal in each of the third and four quarters. However, the Rainbow Warriors defense was just as strong as Amorosa found the back of the net twice, one in each quarter, and the final whistle sounded with Hawaii securing the 10-6 win.
