POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -- In their final match of the Brown Bruno Classic, the Red Foxes fell to the #13 Indiana University Hoosiers 13-10. With the loss, Marist drops to 2-6 (0-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), while the win lifts Indiana to 3-3 (0-0 Collegiate Water Polo Association).
Freshman Katie Tijerina led the Red Foxes with two goals, four assists and three steals. Junior Jocelyn McQuade had two goals and two assists, while Nastassia McGlothlin had two goals and one assist.
Marist scored one goal in the first quarter, five in the second, one in the third and three in fourth.
"We played well this weekend" said head coach Natalie Benson. "There are things we are doing better and more consistently but we made some big mistakes off the ball that the other teams took advantage of and made us pay with goals. As coaches we are learning who works well with whom and who works well in what situations. Our team just needs to realize they are competent and capable and that they just need to go out and execute."
Up next for the Red Foxes is a trip to the West Coast to the University of California San Diego where they will face off in the UCSD Triton Invite tournament. Marist will play #11 UC Santa Barbara at noon on Saturday before playing either #T5 Arizona State or East Bay depending on the results of both matches.
