CLEARWATER, Florida – The Marist softball team suffered a 7-1 loss to Lehigh in the University of South Florida Under Armour Tournament on Saturday.

Lehigh outhit Marist, 8-3. For the Red Foxes, senior first baseman Maureen Duddy was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Senior shortstop Kyrsten Van Natta was 1-for-1 with a double, an RBI, a walk and a hit by pitch.

Marist scored in the top of the first. Duddy led off with a single, and Van Natta followed with an RBI double.

The Red Foxes maintained their lead until the fifth, when Lehigh scored four runs. Second baseman Alexis Watanbe tied the game with an RBI single, and right fielder MacKenzie Velasquez gave her team the lead for good with an RBI double. Pinch-hitter Vicky Lattanzio followed with a two-run double. Lehigh then followed with three more runs in the sixth.

Watanbe finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

For Marist, freshman Brooke Peterson (0-2) went the first 5.2 innings. She allowed five hits, five runs and struck out two. For Lehigh, Christine Campbell (8-3) pitched a complete game with three strikeouts.

Marist is now 12-6 on the season. Lehigh is 15-6.

Due to inclement weather, the first pitch of the game was pushed back over five hours. Marist was originally scheduled to face South Florida at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, but that contest has been moved to Monday at 6 p.m. Marist will return to action on Sunday, when the Red Foxes face Hartford at 9 a.m.
