HIGH POINT, North Carolina - In a non-conference clash that featured five ties and five lead changes, the Marist men's lacrosse team fell to High Point, 11-9, on March 5 in its first road contest of the 2016 season. The Red Foxes are now 1-2 this year while the Panthers evened their record at 3-3.
Sophomore Gannon Morrison had four points on three assists and one goal, the first score of the afternoon, while playing about 90 minutes away from his hometown of Cary, North Carolina. Junior J.D. Recor had two assists and senior Joseph Radin netted three goals to extend his scoring streak to 19 games dating back to last season.
Marist capped off a fast first quarter when Radin fed Recor, who fired a goal from the left side with one second remaining to make it 4-2 in favor of the Red Foxes. High Point made another run in the second quarter before junior Jimmy Murphy caused a turnover, sprinted all the way up the field and hit the back of the net. His score ended a first half that ended without an extra man opportunity for each side.
The Marist offense came out blazing again in the third quarter, scoring three goals in just over three minutes. Redshirt sophomore Brian Corrigan made six of his 17 saves in the period to help maintain a one-goal lead before Radin scored a man up goal at the 4:44 mark of the third quarter. Marist did not get a goal from that point on though, as it suffered its first regular season road loss since March 24 of last season.
Panthers sophomore Zach Tuell came in for the second half and made five saves. Seniors Dan Lomas and Matt Thistle each had a hat trick. As a team, High Point edged Marist in ground balls 37-18.
Marist will face off against UMBC at 12 p.m. March 12.
