Water Polo Beats Siena 13-6 for Seventh MAAC Win

STATEN ISLAND, New York – The Red Foxes picked up their seventh Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win of the season with a 13-6 defeat of the Siena Saints on Saturday morning. With the win, Marist improves to 13-16 (7-2 MAAC) while Siena drops to 3-22 (1-9 MAAC).

Katie Tijerina led the Red Foxes with six goals, one assist, two steals, one ejection and one drawn ejection. Amanda Amorosa chipped in two goals, three assists, four steals and two drawn ejections and Jocelyn McQuade scored two goals and had three assists, four steals, and two drawn ejections. Ariana Singer finished with one goal, two assists, two steals, one ejection and one drawn ejection, Nastassia McGlothlin totaled one goal, one assist, one steal and one ejection and Isabel Leveque scored one goal on the morning.

Skyler Henry and Hope Vickers shared the duties in goal. Henry finished with five goals against and five saves while Vickers gave up one goal and had one save.

Following a 16-9 victory for the Red Foxes two weeks prior, both teams came out looking to finish their last MAAC regular season weekend on a strong note. Two goals by Tijerina and McQuade were equaled by two tallies for the Saints and at the end of the first quarter it was 2-2.

Marist gained the lead in the second off goals by Tijerina (3), McQude and Singer. A strong defensive effort by the Red Foxes blanked Siena and as the two teams headed into the half it was 7-2 Red Foxes.

The third was more evenly matched as the Saints found the back of the net twice. Tijerina matched the Saints goals in the quarter herself and with eight minutes remaining it was 9-4 Marist.

A goal on the counter along with a second later on by Amorosa, along with goals by McGlothlin on the counter and Leveque totaled the scoring for the Red Foxes in the final quarter. In a repeat of the first and third, Siena scored twice and the final buzzer sounded with the Red Foxes victorious 13-6.

Up next for Marist is a rematch vs. St. Francis of Brooklyn at 5:30 PM on Saturday. The Red Foxes previously defeated the Terriers 17-5 on April 3rd.
