WEST WINDSOR, New Jersey – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced the 2015-16 All-MAAC Men's tennis awards. The Red Foxes have four student-athletes named to the All-MAAC team and four student-athletes named to the All-Academic team.
Seniors Joe Motta and Fredrik Bjerke earned a spot on the All-MAAC First Team at the third doubles position. Motta and Bjerke teamed up for a 12-8 record overall and a 4-1 record in conference play.
On the All-MAAC Second Team sophomore Justin Chanthalangsy earned a spot on the team at second singles. Chanthalangsy finished the regular season at 14-11 overall and 3-1 in MAAC play. Chanthalangsy also went 7-1 overall from the second singles position.
Junior Dylan Fletcher was also named to the All-MAAC Second Team at the sixth singles position. Fletcher was a force for the Red Foxes from the anchor position finishing the season with a 26-6 overall record and a 5-1 mark in conference play.
On the MAAC All-Academic Team, Bjerke joins fellow senior Julien Hochner and sophomores Rudolf Kurz and Jan Dernic as honorees. A total of 24 student-athletes comprise the 2016 MAAC Men's Tennis All-Academic Team.
Marist College and Quinnipiac University led all schools with 4 student-athletes each. Fairfield University, Monmouth University, Niagara University, Rider University, and Saint Peter's University each added 3 student-athletes. To round out the list, Siena College added 1 student-athlete.
To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
The Marist men's (14-4, 6-1 MAAC) tennis team start their road to a title at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships Semifinals on Saturday, April 30 at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center. The Red Foxes will play at 10 a.m. against #2 seed Quinnipiac Bobcats.
