BROOKLYN, New York – The Red Foxes extended their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win streak to three games earlier Sunday with a 16-9 win over the Siena University Saints. Marist now stands at 9-14 (3-0 MAAC) while Siena drops to 2-16 (0-4 MAAC).
Amanda Amorosa led Marist with five goals, one assist and one steal. Susan Cantoni finished the match with three goals, one assist and one steal, Katie Tijerina chipped in two goals, two assists and one steal and Jocelyn McQuade finished with two goals, two assists and one steal. Grace Doerfler chipped in one goal, Ariana Singer contributed one goal and two assists, Diana Carballo had one goal, one assist and three steals and Nastassia McGlothlin with one goal, one assist and one steal wrapped up the scoring.
Hope Vickers and Skyler Henry shared the duty in net, finishing with seven goals against and five saves and two goals against and two saves respectively.
The Red Foxes jumped out to a large lead early in the opening quarter. Doerfler, McQuade and Carballo all scored for Marist on the counter attack, while Amorosa added two goals of her own. The Saints found the back of the net once and after the first eight minutes, the Red Foxes were ahead 5-1.
The second quarter was much the same as the first with Amorosa on the counter, McGlothlin on a penalty shot and Cantoni all finding the back of the net for Marist. Siena found a little more offensive momentum, scoring three times and the two teams headed into the half with the Red Foxes ahead 8-4.
In the third quarter, Tijerina twice, once on the counterattack, Amorosa twice on the counterattack and Singer found the back of the net for Marist. The Saints answered with two goals of their own and with eight minutes left in the match, the Red Foxes held the 13-6 lead.
The final quarter proved to be a little more balanced. McQuade on the counter and Cantoni twice, once on a penalty shot scored for Marist. Siena answered with three goals of their own but it was not enough as the final buzzer sounded with the Red Foxes emerging with the 16-9 victory.
Up next for Marist is the fourth MAAC contest of the year against St. Francis at 5:30 PM on Sunday.
