Hoffman and Vuono Pick Up Awards At Baccalaureate Ceremony

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - A pair of Marist student-athletes were recognized for academic excellence at the 2016 Baccalaureate Ceremony on May 20 in the Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Chapel.

Water polo senior Ellie Hoffman earned the Award for Excellence in Studio Art and Art History. The award is given to the graduating senior who has excelled in their coursework and also has become involved in the discipline of art beyond the classroom. Hoffman donated her artworks to benefit the Grace Smith House, a private not-for-profit domestic violence agency which provides both residential and non-residential services to victims of domestic violence and their children. Upon graduation she will return home to California to begin a teacher credential program so she can begin her career as an art teacher.

The School of Management presented cross country and track runner Mark Vuono with the Award For Academic Excellence in Accounting. The honor acknowleges the senior accounting major who possesses the highest cumulative grade point averages in accounting and overall, and who has provided service to the Beta Alpha Psi honor society. Following graduation, he will start work in public accounting for KPMG.

Marist will begin its 70th Commencement Exercises for the Traditional Undergraduate Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow. The ceremony will be streamed live here.
