POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Rising red-shirt senior Khallid Hart of the Marist men's basketball team will be representing the Virgin Islands in the 2016 Centrobasket Championship this coming week.
The 2016 Centrobasket Championship, put on by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the Central American and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA) will take place at the Roberto Duran Arena in Panama City from June 19-25. The competition will host 10 international teams from Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
This past season, Hart was named Second Team All-MAAC and averaged 20.3 points per game, which ranked 25th in the nation. He averaged 36.5 minutes per game, drained a team-high 72 three-pointers while shooting .383 from beyond the arc, and hit a team-best 169 free throws with an .841 shooting percentage from the line. Hart will enter the 2016-17 with 1,306 career points, the 11th highest total in program history.
The Virgin Islands will open play against the Bahamas on Sunday, June 19 at 4 p.m. EDT. The team's schedule is below. Games can be streamed on http://www.livebasketball.tv on a subscription basis.
