Men's Tennis Continues on at Day Two of Yale and Ivy-Plus Invites

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania & NEW HAVEN, Connecticut - The Marist men's tennis team continued on with play at day two of the Ivy-Plus Invitiational and the Yale Invitational Saturday morning and afternoon. At the Ivy-Plus the Red Foxes secured wins against Penn State, Columbia, Harvard and Buffalo.

In doubles play at the Ivy-Plus Invitational, Jan Dernic teamed up with Paulo Siracusa in the Pagoda draw but fell to Buffalo's Vodak and Grbic, 8-4. Siracusa fared better in singles play, pulling out a strong three set win against Harvard's Michael Peter's , 5-7, 6-2, 10-8. Dernic was defeated in his singles match by Tennessee's Steven Karl, 6-1, 6-3.

Christopher Gladden and Gianlucca Massa teamed up for two doubles wins out of the Whitman draw, defeating Penn State's duo of Lieb and Collado, 8-7 and Columbia's pairing of Alda and Grant, 8-5. Gladden and Mass will take on Harvard's Yeung and Peters on Sunday in the final round of the Ivy-Plus.

Gladden also picked up a singles win as he defeated Buffalo's Petr Vodak, 6-4, 3-6, 10-5. Massa fell in his singles match 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 to Tennessee's Luca Wiedenmann.

“Kudos to freshman Christopher Gladden for three wins, two in doubles against Penn State and Columbia University and a singles win against the University of Buffalo,” said head coach Tim Smith. “In addition, Paulo Siracusa had in my estimation the best win in his tenure at Marist. Credit also goes to Gianlucca Massa for his leadership in the doubles wins against Penn State and Columbia. “We look forward with vigor towards our final matches tomorrow.”


At day two of the Yale invite the Red Foxes took on competition from Brown, Boston College, Fairfield, Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac, UConn, and Yale.

In doubles play Rudolf Kurz and Justin Chanthalangsy lost in the main draw 6-1 to Brown but defeated Boston College's pairing 6-1 in their next match. Lars Schouten and Dylan Fletcher fell to Fairfield, 6-4 and Max Darrington and Carlos Moreno defeated Sacred Heart's duo, 6-3.

In singles play, TImo Tanzer picked up two wins in straight sets vs opponents from Brown and Fairfield. Fletcher picked up a straight set victory in a singles match against UConn, 7-6, 6-0, and Darrington defeated UConn's Goldstein, 1-6, 6-1, 10-7.

The Red Foxes have concluded play at the Yale Invitational but will continue on tomorrow with matches at the Ivy-Plus Invitational.
