BUFFALO, New York – The Marist women's swimming and diving team carried over its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season dual meet winning streak into 2017-18, edging Canisius 155-145 in the regular season opener Oct. 13.

Freshman
Georgeanne Zimmerman broke out in her collegiate debut for the Red Foxes, helping them score 38 points. She won every event she competed in, as she was a member of the first place 200-yard medley relay squad and touched first in three more individual events. Zimmerman won the 100- (1:08.10) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.27) as well as the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.69).

In the long distance events senior
Sara Nestrowitz won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:39.25. She placed second in the 200- and 500-yard events. Senior
Georgia Goldman also registered a pair of second place rankings in the 50- (25.43 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (55.88 seconds). She won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.59.

A Marist newcomer also excelled on the diving board as freshman
Esabelle Gervasio took the top spot in the 1-meter dive with 237.60 points. Her victory helped put Marist pull out the close victory.

- Zimmerman swam the fastest split of the 200-yard medley relay, completing the butterfly leg in 28.14 seconds to help the Marist foursome to a time of 1:51.59.
- Zimmerman's time in the 200-yard individual medley narrowly beat Canisius freshman Kelsey Childress by .82 seconds.
- Nestrowitz led a 1-4 finish for Marist in the 1,000-yard freestyle, as she was followed by freshman
Heather Hartmann, junior
Shannon Gordon, and senior
Melanie Newton. Â
- The top three finishers in the 100-yard backstroke were separated by 1.09 seconds with Goldman coming out on top.
- Gervasio also had the highest Marist finish on the 1-meter board, coming in third with 214.95 points.
- Canisius senior Rebecca Anthone touched first in the 50- (24.39 seconds) and 200-yard freestyle (1:55.24).

Marist will face a quick turnaround when it hosts Fordham for its home opener Oct. 19. The non-conference dual meet will begin at 6 p.m. in McCann Natatorium.
