Marist Men's Tennis Wins Two

HARRISON, New York – The Marist men's tennis team picked up two wins on the day as they defeated Fordham and Wagner to improve the season's record to 4-1 overall. The Red Foxes defeated Fordham, 4-1, and then took down Wagner, 5-0.

“The format for this match was four singles and one doubles and the score against Wagner and Fordham was really not indicative of the play as many games went to deuce,” said head coach Tim Smith. “I was really proud of the way the guys competed and the honorable way both teams conducted themselves without having officials present.”

Playing simultaneously at singles and doubles, the Red Foxes won at the first doubles and singles position and the second and fourth singles spots. Justin Chanthalangsy and Dylan Fletcher teamed up to beat Nick Borak and Jeremy Chung, 6-3, 6-1.

At the first singles spot Javier Restrepo won the first set 6-1 and then climbed back from down 5-2 in the second set to claim a 7-5 straight set victory.

Rudolf Kurz defeated Victor Li at the second singles position and Christopher Gladden defeated Fordham's Allen Thomas, 7-5, 6-3 at the four spot.

Against Wagner the Red Foxes controlled the action again, picking up where they left off against the Rams. Rudolf Kurz and Christopher Gladden defeated Dale Sanday and Anatoliy Lashkul, 7-5, 6-1.

Restrepo picked up his second win of the day as he defeated Hans Ohmer, 6-3, 6-2. Chanthalangsy took care of business in his match, downing Ilya Kneppelhout, 6-2, 6-1. Gianlucca Massa won over Fordham's Allen Wang, 6-2, 6-1, and Fletcher won his second match of the day defeating Eric Poland, 7-6 (3).

“Special kudos goes out to Javier who won two matches at one singles and Rudolf Kurz who came back from down 5-3 in the second set to pull out a win,” said Smith. “All in all it was an excellent way to spend a Sunday with Coach Lane and the team.”

The Red Foxes take some time off before next spending  the weekend New Haven, Connecticut on Friday, March 10 through Sunday, Match 12 facing off against Stony Brook, Yale, and Fairfield.
