WAPPINGERS FALLS, New York – The Marist men's tennis team won again Sunday afternoon as they defeated the Boston University Terriers, 5-1, in non-conference play at the Cross Court Tennis Facility in Wappingers Falls, NY. With the win the Red Foxes improve to 8-2 overall on the season.
“Today was another hard fought match that I hope will help us prepare for our upcoming MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) matches,” said head coach Tim Smith. “Kudos to Javier (Restrepo) for his singles and doubles play, Gianlucca (Mass) for his singles and doubles play and Dylan (Fletcher) and Justin (Chanthalangsy) for the persistence to come back and win their matches.”
The Red Foxes started the day with singles play, taking command of the lead early. Javier Restrepo defeated the Terriers' Lucas Bombonaitti, 6-3, 6-4 while Rudolf Kurz won his singles match against Jay Leelavanich by the same margin.
Gianlucca Massa defeated BU's Satvaiit Simhadri in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, and Dylan Fletcher won from the sixth singles spot over Marc Stable.
Justin Chanthalangsy would clinch the match for the Red Foxes with a win at fourth singles, defeating the Terriers' Jake De Fries, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Restrepo and Massa would win one more doubles match against Leelavanich and Miguel Cepeda, 6-3, after the match was clinched.
Up next the Red Foxes kick-off conference play with a home match against the Rider Broncs on Thursday, March 30th. Match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
