POUGHKEEPSIE, New York –The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association has announced that Marist women's basketball's Rebekah Hand has been named Met Writers' Rookie of the Year.
Hand's selection marks the 23rd time in the last 14 years that a member of the Marist women's basketball program has received an honor from the Met Writers Association. The All-Met First and Second Team players, coach and rookie of the year will be honored on Wednesday, April 26 at the 84th All-Met NIT/Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown.
Hand has now won a trifecta of Rookie of the Year awards after being named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Year and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Year.
Rebekah Hand averaged 13.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game in 30 starts for Marist. The guard led MAAC freshmen in scoring, rebounding, free-throw percentage (80.4%), defensive rebounds per game (4.6), and minutes per game (35.9).
The Argyle, TX native was named MAAC Rookie of the Week eight times this season and earned the honor five weeks in a row (November 21-December 19). Hand was a unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team.
