POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Fifth-year senior linebacker Willie Barrett has been a mainstay on the Marist football team's defensive unit for the last few years.
 
Barrett showed promise as a freshman in the 2014 season before sitting out 2015 due to injury. Since his return, he has established himself as one of the top linebackers in the Football Championship Subdivision and a perennial All-Pioneer Football League performer.
 
As a red-shirt sophomore two seasons ago, Barrett totaled 73 tackles and was named Second Team All-PFL. Last season, he was named First Team All-PFL and the league's Defensive Player of the Week twice. He led Marist in tackles for loss, tied for the team lead in sacks and forced fumbles, and his three fumble recoveries were the most by a Red Fox in the last 15 seasons.
 
Barrett has earned plenty of recognition heading into his final year as a Red Fox, and has backed it up with strong performances on the field. He was named to the Watch List for the Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented to the top defensive player in the FCS, and was also named Preseason All-PFL. He was also elected as one of the team's four captains this season.

So far in 2018, Barrett leads the team in sacks, and is tied for the team high in total tackles, tackles for loss, interceptions, and forced fumbles.
