Water Polo Heads to LMU For Final Tournament of Regular Season

LOS ANGELES, California -- The Marist water polo team heads to Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA for the regular season's final tournament, the LMU Invitational on Friday and Saturday. 

The Red Foxes play the #22 Harvard Crimson (1:30 p.m.) and the #17 Princeton Tigers (7:45 p.m.) on Friday and the #21 San Jose State Spartans (1:30 p.m.) and the #24 Cal Baptist Lancers (7:45 p.m.) on Saturday.

ON A ROLL:

Marist currently stands at 11-10 (4-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference)and have won 10 of its last 14 games. The Red Foxes are coming off a perfect 4-0 weekend to open MAAC play last Saturday and Sunday at Siena College where they picked up a 7-5 win over the Iona Gaels and a 13-10 win over the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers on Saturday and a 22-6 win at the Siena Saints and a 24-7 win over the La Salle Explorers on Sunday. 

ANOTHER TWO NATIONAL RANKINGS:

Marist is once again ranked in two national polls this week, picking up a #24 ranking in the USA Water Polo National Collegiate Rankings and a #23 ranking in the Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Association Week 9 Poll respectively.

The rankings mark the 11th and 12th  times the Red Foxes have been included in a national poll this season and the fourth time they have appeared in two polls in the same week, having previously been ranked #23 in the CWPA's Preseason and Week 1 Polls, #12 in the USA Water Polo National Collegiate Rankings, #24 in the CWPA Week 2 Poll, #21 in the USA Water Polo National Collegiate Rankings, #24 in the CWPA Week 3 Poll, #T24 in the CWPA Week 4 Poll, #25 in the CWPA Week 5 Poll, #23 in the USA Water Polo National Collegiate Rankings last week and #23 in the CWPA Week 8 Poll. 

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON:

Harvard enters the tournament ranked #22 in the CWPA Week 9 Poll, are 8-9 overall on the season and are coming off an 11-9 win at Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday and a 16-6 loss at UC Irvine on Thursday. Earlier this season, the Crimson defeated Marist 13-3 on Feb 3rd at the Bruno Classic hosted by Brown University. 

The team is led by junior Kristen Hong who has a team high 28 goals, is third with 12 steals and is fourth with 11 assists.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS:

Princeton is currently ranked #17 in the CWPA Week 9 Poll, are 7-6 overall on the season and are coming off a 13-4 loss vs the #9 Michigan Wolverines last Saturday and a 13-7 win vs the Brown Bears on Sunday.

Senior Hayley Wan leads the team with 25 goals and 25 steals and is tied for first with 16 assists. Freshman Marissa Webb has played the majority of the season in goal and is 7-6 with 130 saves and 112 goals against for a .537 save percentage on the year.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS: 

San Jose State enters the tournament ranked #21 in the CWPA Week 9 Poll, are 5-11 on the season and are coming off an 8-6 OT loss at the #22 Princeton Tigers and a 7-6 win vs the #15 Wagner Seahawks on March 4th. 

Junior Guara Garcia Delgado leads the team with 19 goals and senior Katelynn Thompson has played the most in net and has 69 saves and 80 goals against with a 9.48 goals against average.

SCOUTING THE LANCERS:

Cal Baptist is currently ranked #24 in the CWPA Week 9 Poll, are 12-9 overall and are coming off a 12-7 win vs Fresno Pacific, an 8-7 win vs George Washington and a 12-6 win vs Redlands on March 10th.

Freshman Kira O'Donnell with 55 shots and 22 goals and is second with 34 points. Sophomore Grace Ramirez has played the majority of the season in net and is 4-7 with 81 saves, 124 goals against, a .395 save percentage and an 11.81 goals against average.
