NEW ROCHELLE, New York -- The Marist water polo team continues Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action this weekend when they travel to Iona College in New Rochelle, NY for matchups vs the Virginia Military Institute Keydets (10:30 a.m.) and the Wagner College Seahawks (3:00 p.m.) on Saturday and the Villanova Wildcats (10:30 a.m.) on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Red Foxes are coming off the LMU Invitational in Los Angeles, CA last weekend where they fell to the #22 Harvard Crimson 7-5, the #17 Princeton Tigers 8-7, the #21 San Jose State Spartans 6-5 5OT and the #24 Cal Baptist Lancers 10-5.
A DUO OF NATIONAL RANKINGS:
For the third straight week, Marist was ranked in two national polls, picking up a #25 ranking in the USA Water Polo National Collegiate Rankings and a #24 ranking in the Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Association Week 10 Poll respectively.
The rankings mark the 12th and 13th times the Red Foxes have been included in a national poll this season, having previously been ranked #23 in the CWPA's Preseason and Week 1 Polls, #12 in the USA Water Polo National Collegiate Rankings, #24 in the CWPA Week 2 Poll, #21 in the USA Water Polo National Collegiate Rankings, #24 in the CWPA Week 3 Poll, #T24 in the CWPA Week 4 Poll, #25 in the CWPA Week 5 Poll, #23 in the USA Water Polo National Collegiate Rankings, #23 in the CWPA Week 8 Poll, #24 in the USA Water Polo National Collegiate Rankings last week and #23 in the CWPA Week 9 Poll.
MAAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Jessica Hermosillo was named the MAAC Water Polo Defensive Player of the Week the conference announced on Wednesday.
The award is the second of the season and career for Hermosillo and fourth of the year for the program after junior
Grace Doerfler and freshman
Lauren Smith were named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Jan. 25.
Hermosillo had an outstanding weekend at the LMU Invitational, finishing with 37 saves and three steals in three games. She had 9 saves vs #22 Harvard, had 10 saves and one steal vs #17 Princeton and a career high 18 saves and one steal vs #21 San Jose State to send the game into five overtimes.
SCOUTING THE KEYDETS:
VMI currently stands at 10-5 (2-2 MAAC) and are coming off a 19-11 win vs Gannon and a 14-12 OT loss to George Washington at home last Saturday.
Last season, the Keydets and Marist split the regular season series with the Red Foxes 15-8 at home on March 25, while VMI prevailed 17-15 at Iona on April 15th. The two teams then met in the MAAC Championship semi-finals with Marist prevailing 11-7.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS:
Wagner enters the weekend with an 11-6 (3-0 MAAC) record, a #18 ranking in the CWPA Week 10 Poll and are coming off 21-2, 21-5 and 8-6 wins vs La Salle, Siena and VMI respectively on March 10-11.
In 2017, the Red Foxes and Seahawks met three times, with Wagner winning each game with 10-6 and 9-5 scores in the regular season and 11-7 in the MAAC Championship game.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
Villanova currently stands at 3-11 (1-2 MAAC) and are coming off a 12-7 win vs St. Francis Brooklyn and a 10-9 loss vs Siena on March 10 and a 17-7 loss vs Iona on March 11.
Last season, Marist and the Wildcats met twice in the regular season with the Red Foxes prevailing 15-8 and 11-9.
