Marist Softball Begins Road Trip In California

Red Foxes Play Five Games At ShareSLO Mustang Classic

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team is back in action this weekend with five games at the ShareSLO Mustang Classic in San Luis Obispo, California.
 
This tournament starts a stretch of 13 games in 10 days in one continuous trip for the Red Foxes, who will then travel to Texas following its conclusion.
 
SCHEDULE
The Red Foxes will play two games against Santa Clara, two games against Cal Poly, and one game against North Dakota. There will be doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, and one game on Sunday. The full schedule is below (all times Eastern):
 
Friday:
  • 3:30 p.m. vs Santa Clara
  • 8:30 p.m. vs Cal Poly
Saturday:
  • 1 p.m. vs Santa Clara
  • 3:30 p.m. vs Cal Poly
Sunday
  • 1 p.m. vs University of North Dakota
             
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Red Foxes went 2-3 at the Red and Black Tournament last weekend. On Friday, the team split its two games, defeating North Carolina Central 2-1, but falling 5-1 to Gardner-Webb. On Saturday, they suffered a 4-1 loss to North Carolina Central in their first game of the day, and a 3-1 defeat to Gardner-Webb in the afternoon. Marist closed out the tournament with a win on Sunday, defeating Gardner-Webb 3-1.

Key Stats from the Red and Black Tournament:
 
  • Senior Gabrielle Kelliher belted her first homer of the season, moving her into a tie for third place all-time in program history.
  • Freshman Caroline Baratta led the team in batting average (.421), total bases (10), hits (8), runs scored (4), stolen bases (2), and triples (1).
  • Junior Megan Beiermeister played a key role in both Red Fox victories, picking up a save in the 2-1 victory over NCCU, and picking up a win in six shutout relief innings in the 3-1 victory over Gardner-Webb. She led the Red Fox pitching staff in innings (12.2), strikeouts (11), and ERA (1.66).
  • The Red Fox pitching staff combined for a stellar 2.12 ERA, three complete games, and 20 strikeouts.
 
 
SCOUTING SANTA CLARA
The Broncos picked up their first two wins of the season this past weekend at the San Diego Classic. Previously 0-10, Santa Clara went 2-3 in San Diego, improving its overall record to 2-13. Both Bronco wins came on the back end of a doubleheader, as they defeated Boston University 3-0 on Friday, and California State University Northridge 7-5 on Saturday. Their losses came against Long Beach State, Central Florida, and UCLA. Overall, the team is hitting .199/.287/.255 and has an ERA of 6.08. Taylor Burns leads the Broncos with a .275 average, while Micaela Vierra has a team-best 3.38 ERA.
 
SCOUTING CAL POLY
The Mustangs are 9-9 this season. They played at the Judi Garman Classic last weekend, finishing with a 2-2 record. They defeated Iowa 3-2 on Saturday, and they defeated Michigan State 4-3 on Sunday. Their two loses came against Fresno State and Michigan. Overall, the team is hitting .265/.344/.340 with an ERA of 4.94. Chelsea Convissar leads the team with a .393 average, while Steffi Best has a team-low 3.34 ERA. Lindsey Chalmers has thrown six complete games, and a 5-2 record, in 43 innings pitched.

SCOUTING UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA
The Fighting Hawks are 11-9 so far this year. This past weekend, they competed in the Hampton Tournament, going 4-1. They swept two games against Maryland-Eastern Shore, split two games against Rutgers, and beat Hampton in the one game they played. Following the tournament, senior Kaylin VanDomelen was named the Big Sky Conference's Pitcher of the Week. Overall, North Dakota is batting .267/.335/.402 with a team ERA of 3.91. Angel Love leads the Fighting Hawks with a .421 average in 57 at bats, while VanDomelen is the star of the pitching staff with a 2.84 ERA in 66.2 innings.

The Red Foxes head to Huntsville, Texas for a doubleheader against Sam Houston State University on Tuesday, March 13. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. Eastern.
