Milam Enjoying Breakout Season

Sophomore Leads Red Foxes In Batting Average, Homers, RBIs

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York Ali Milam of the Marist softball team has a love of the outdoors, whether it's a dive into a swimming hole or a challenging hike.

In the 2018 season, Milam is enjoying a climb of a different sort – with her statistics.

The Goleta, California native is enjoying a breakout sophomore season. As the Red Foxes head into a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekend at Fairfield (April 13) and home against Quinnipiac (April 14), Milam leads the Red Foxes in batting average (.383), home runs (five), runs batted in (31), on-base percentage (.482) and slugging percentage (.628) in 35 games played.

As a freshman, Milam hit .215 in 44 games, and primarily played first base. This year, following the graduation of two of the most productive hitters in program history in Janna Korak and Rebecca Freeman, Milam has found a home in the middle of the Marist lineup. She has hit cleanup 28 times this season while starting at all three outfield positions.

Here are some of Milam's season highlights:

  • Named MAAC Player of the Week on March 20.
  • A five-RBI game in a win at Houston Baptist on March 14.
  • A homer at nationally-ranked Texas A&M on March 18.
  • Two Homers and seven RBIs in back-to-back games against Niagara and Canisius on April 7 and April 8.
  • A streak of 16 consecutive games reaching base, the longest by any Red Fox this season.
  • A batting average which has been over .300 since the season's fourth game, and peaked at .420 on March 16.
