Softball Prepares For Final Home Weekend

Seniors To Be Honored Prior to Sunday’s Doubleheader With Saint Peter’s

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team is preparing for its final home weekend of the 2018 regular season, with the program's Senior Class set to be honored on Sunday.

 

The Red Foxes (19-25 overall, 6-6 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) will face a pair of conference foes this weekend in Manhattan (18-23, 2-10) on Saturday and Saint Peter's (5-33, 0-12) on Sunday. Doubleheaders are set for both days, with first pitch each day scheduled for noon.

 

Prior to Sunday's doubleheader, Marist's senior class of Brittany Colombo, Gabrielle Kelliher, Kourtney Paul, and Miranda Perez will be honored. Over the last four years, this quartet was part of the program's 2016 MAAC championships, the teams with the two highest win total in program history, and 129 total victories.

 

Here is a closer look at the contributions by this year's seniors, all of whom are captains on this year's team:

 

Brittany Colombo

n  Four-year starter at third base.

n  Selected to the MAAC All-Academic Team the last two years.

n  Delivered game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh in the MAAC championship final in 2016.

n  Has appeared in 192 career games, with 162 starts.

 

Gabrielle Kelliher

n  Named an Academic All-American In 2017, and Academic All-District each of the last two years.

n  Second Team All-MAAC selection the last two years, Second Team All-Region last year, MAAC All-Tournament Team in 2016, and MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2015.

n  Tied for second in program history with 30 home runs.

n  Has won three MAAC weekly awards in her career.

 

Miranda Perez

n  Two-year selection to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

n  Two-year starter who has appeared in 159 career games, with 118 starts.

n  Has started at four different defensive positions (first base, shortstop, left field, right field).

n  Hit career-best .331 in 2017.

 

Kourtney Paul

n  First Team All-MAAC selection in 2017.

n  Named to the MAAC All-Academic Team each of the last two years.

n  Sixth in program history in career stolen bases (32).

n  Three-year member of Marist's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
