Marist Softball Set To Open MAAC Championship

Red Foxes Face Siena 11 a.m. Wednesday

WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey – The Marist softball team will open play in the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship on Wednesday. The sixth-seeded Red Foxes will take on third-seeded Siena at 11 a.m. The entire tournament will take place at Monmouth.
 
Here is a closer look at the championship:
 
Regular Season
  • Marist is the #6 seed is this year's MAAC Softball Championship.
  • The Red Foxes are 24-30 overall and went 9-11 in conference play this season.
 
Against Siena
  • Marist was swept in a doubleheader at Siena on April 24, falling by scores of 2-0 and 2-1.
  • Both Lauren Butts (game one) and Maddie McMahon (game two) tossed one-hitters against the Red Foxes.
  • Freshman Lauren Beal had Marist's only hit in game one, and her sacrifice fly drove in the team's run in game two.
  • For Marist in the circle, Megan Beiermeister (7 K, 3 BB, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER) pitched a complete game in game one. Kallen Leeseberg (5+ IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 0 K) took the loss in game two.
  • Both of Siena's runs in game two came on wild pitches in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Championship History
  • Marist has won three MAAC championships in its history: 2006, 2013, and 2016.
  • Last season, Marist placed third in the conference tournament.
  • Marist has qualified for the conference tournament for three straight seasons, and seven of the last eight.

  • Every game on Wednesday and Thursday will be broadcast live on MAAC.TV.
  • Every game on Friday and Saturday will be carried live on ESPN+.
  • The championship's award show will be broadcast live on MAAC.TV starting on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
 
Field
  • The championship field is the exact same six teams as last season (Monmouth, Fairfield, Siena, Iona, Manhattan, Marist).
  • The Red Foxes went 3-7 against the tournament field this season.
  • The championship uses a double-elimination format.
