POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – In 2004, the Marist men's soccer team won its second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship in program history and first since 2000. The title was the first of the Red Foxes back-to-back MAAC titles in '04 and '05.

The Red Foxes finished the season 11-8 overall and 6-3 in conference, earning the third-seed in the MAAC tournament. Sophomore forward Keith Detelj scored his 10th and 11th goals of the season to lead the third-seeded Marist men's soccer team past second-seeded St. Peter's in the semifinals and onto the championship game.

In the MAAC Championship, Kyle Nunes and David Musinski each netted a goal in Marist's 2-0 win over host Rider. The victory clinched the Red Foxes' first bid to the NCAA Tournament in school history. Nunes put the Red Foxes on the board first when he blasted a 40-yard shot from straight away at the 3:18 mark over the outstretched arms of Rider goalkeeper Daniel Riverso.

Musinski's goal came in the 83rd minute on an assist from Benjamin Castor, the league's defensive player of the year. Marist goalkeeper, Mike Valenti, finished with three saves, while Riverso had seven. The Red Foxes outshot Rider 13-7. Keith Detelj was named tournament MVP, while Castor, Tomislav Rogic, Nunes and Valenti were all named all-tournament.

The team would go on to face the University of Connecticut in the first round where they lost bitterly in overtime 2-1. Sophomore midfielder Anthony Graci scored with just 2:57 left in regulation to knot the game at 1-1, but the Huskies scored just 1:29 into the first overtime period to end the season for the Red Foxes.
