New York Jets Claim Marist Graduate Jason Myers

Myers Kicked For Red Foxes From 2009-12

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The New York Jets have claimed placekicker Jason Myers, a 2013 Marist graduate who kicked for the Red Foxes from 2009-12.

Myers is now one of three kickers on the Jets' roster, joining Cairo Santos and Taylor Bertolet. His first game action with the Jets will come on Friday night, when they face the New York Giants in a preseason contest at MetLife Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised locally on WCBS.

Myers is in his fourth season in the NFL. He kicked for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2015-17. In this time, Myers established himself as one of the top kickoff specialists in the league, with 72 percent (141-for-195) going for touchbacks. This rate is the NFL's best over the last three years among the 34 kickers with at least 100 kickoffs (per NYJets.com contributor Randy Lange). He converted 81 percent of his field goal attempts (64-for-79) with the Jaguars.

On Jan. 3, Myers signed a reserve/future contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts this preseason with Seattle, where he was competing with 19-year NFL veteran Sebastian Janikowski. Myers was waived by the Seahawks on Monday, but then claimed by the Jets 24 hours later.

Myers served as the primary placekicker and kickoff specialist in all four of his seasons at Marist, and also handled punting duties in his senior season. He remains the program's record holder for longest field goal at 49 yards, and graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer among placekickers.

Following graduation, Myers kicked for the Arizona Rattlers and San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League before signing with the Jaguars on March 3, 2015.

Myers is one of two former Marist football players currently on an NFL roster. Terrence Fede, who played for the Miami Dolphins from 2014-17, is in his first season with the Buffalo Bills.

Marist opens the 2018 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 against Georgetown at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes will have five home games this season, their 10th as a member of the Pioneer Football League. For information on tickets, please click here.
