HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Marist water polo program earned its first wins of the season at the Rainbow Invite, upsetting #19 San Diego State yesterday after falling to #6 Hawaii that morning. The Red Foxes proceeded to handle Sonoma State this afternoon to move to 2-2 for the season. 
 

HAWAII

• The Rainbow Warriors topped the Red Foxes 17-3 in their home pool, and outshot them 33-10.
• Lauren Smith, Jocelyn Castro and Susan Cantoni each scored a goal for Marist.
• Carolyn Gauvin grabbed a team-high two steals while Aminadi Anorve, Castro, Cantoni and Katherine Tijerina each had one.
• Carsen Horvatich guarded the net for the Red Foxes, making three saves and one steal.

SAN DIEGO STATE

• The Red Foxes emerged victorious over the Aztecs, 7-6, for their first win of the season. 
• The teams went equal in shots with 24 each, but Marist went 1-for-3 on powerplays and held San Diego State to 0-of-6.
• Lauren Smith and Justine Castro came up big with two goals each, while tallying three and one steal respectively.
• Carolyn Gauvin, Grace Doerfler and Anais Mathes each scored a goal to propel the Red Foxes to victory.
• Horvatich made six saves and two steals to stave off an aggressive Aztec offense.

SONOMA STATE

• Marist defeated Sonoma State 14-3 in a dominant showing, outshooting the Seawolves 28-20.
• Justine Castro scored a game-high three goals on four shots to help build the Red Fox lead.
• Susan Cantoni, Gabi Gervasi and Kathryn McCullough each had two goals, while Gervasi contributed two steals as well.
• Sawyer Alter, Katelin Harris, Bree Marmion, Smith and Doefler all scored a goal to round out Marist's dominant offensive display.
• Marina Hyham and Hope Vickers each made two saves in goal for the Red Foxes.

UP NEXT

The Red Foxes will travel to Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday, February 2. While there, they will take on both the Brown Bears and the Bucknell Bison.
