BUFFALO, New York – Marist women's swimming and diving defeated the Canisius Golden Griffins 189-111 on Friday morning in its season opener. The win was also the squad's first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory of the year. Marist is now 1-0 overall on the year, and 1-0 in conference play.
- Perhaps the greatest highlight of the meet was Grace Reeves earning first place in the 3-meter dive. She scored 220.64, which was her best performance of her career in the event. This was also her first career first place victory.
- Esabelle Gervasio continued her impressive performance at the end of last season, into the new year. After winning Diver of the Meet at the ECAC and MAAC Championships, she came into Friday's meet and dominated the 1-meter dive, with a score of 244.20.
- In the first individual event of the day, the Marist women absolutely dominated. Sidney Judson finished atop the rankings in the 1000-yard free with a time of 10:40.59. Heather Hartmann and Kimberly Chan finished right behind her in second and third place.
- It was a dominant day all around for Judson, totaling 22 points in the meet. She finished in first place in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:12.76. She also finished in second place in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:58.16.
- It was a big day for the Marist freshman. Three different freshmen finished victorious in different events. Danielle Cianciotto won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:13.30, Molly Hewett won the 200-yard back with a time of 2:09.28, and Leigh-Anne Zanella won the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:13.79.
- In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Juliet Nowak, Georgeanne Zimmerman, Emma Butzler, and Zanella finished in second place with a time of 1:50.92.
The Red Foxes will host their home opener on Thursday, October 24 at 6 p.m. They will take a break from MAAC play to welcome Fordham University to Poughkeepsie for the midweek matchup.
