GREENWOOD, Indiana – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) placed Marist volleyball's senior outside hitter
Megan Fergus and sophomore middle blocker
Skylar Harrison on the 2019 Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Thursday.
Fergus garners the recognition for the first time in her career, adding another accolade to her illustrious Marist career. This season, she already has 374 kills, which is already the eighth most in a single season in program history. The senior is majoring in Education Psychology, and has spent time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, the Special Olympics, and the National Girls & Women in Sports Day Clinic. Fergus advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Those honorees will be announced in early December.
Harrison also advances to the CoSida Academic All-America Ballot. This is Harrison's first year being recognized as a member of the Academic All-District Team, considering it is the first year she is eligible. Harrison tallied her career-high of 12 kills last game against Canisius, and is playing the best volleyball of her career right now. She has 38 total kills on the year, to go along with 18 total blocks. the sophomore is majoring in Business Administration, and has spent time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and Girl Scouts Sport Sampler.
This fall, the Marist Athletics Department has amassed six all-district selections. The list also includes Jillian Colucci of women's soccer, Michael Lorello of men's soccer, Grant Dixon of football, and Jack Griffith of Football.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games, completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution, and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
