LA JOLLA, California - Marist water polo opened the Triton Invitational with a loss to #11 UC Davis, and then earned a win in the second round over Santa Clara. The team returns to the pool tomorrow to face #20 UC San Diego at 3 p.m. eastern time.
 

UC DAVIS 11, Marist 7

• Justine Castro scored a team-high two goals and collected a steal as well.
• Lauren Smith, Anais Mathes, Ariana Singer, Susan Cantoni and Katherine Tijerina each scored a goal to contribute to the Red Foxes' point total.
• Carsen Horvatich made 10 saves in goal and grabbed two steals.

Marist 10, Santa Clara 8

• Katherine Tijerina recorded an impressive stat-line of four goals, two assists and a steal to propel Marist to victory.
• Justine Castro and Cantoni each tallied two goals and a steal.
• Jocelyn Castro and Lexi Puhl tallied a goal each to lift the Red Foxes.
• Horvatich and Marina Hyham blocked three shots each in the net.

UP NEXT

• Marist will play the hosts UCSD tomorrow at 3 p.m. eastern time, and depending on the result, will play either #16 Long Beach State or #22 California State University-Northridge that evening.
