POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist graduate Jason Myers has signed with the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks have reported that it is a multi-year contract.
Last season, as a placekicker with the New York Jets, Myers became the first former Marist football player to compete in the Pro Bowl. He kicked two field goals, covering 31 and 47 yards, and two extra points in the AFC's 26-7 victory. He became the second Marist graduate to be selected to a professional All-Star Game. Rik Smits, who graduated from Marist in 1988, played in the 1998 NBA All-Star Game.
Myers earned several accolades in an outstanding 2018 season with the Jets:
- He became the first player in NFL history to hit five 55-yard field goals in a single season. His six field goals of 50-plus yards were tied for most in the NFL this season, and set a franchise record.
- Had 60 touchbacks on his 82 kickoffs. He ranked fourth in the NFL in total touchbacks, and set a Jets' record in that category.
- Converted 33 of his 36 field goal attempts (91.7 percent). Myers was tied for third in the NFL in field goals made.
- Set a team record with seven field goals in a 42-34 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 14. Following that performance, Myers was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Myers began his NFL career began with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was the team's primary placekicker from 2015 until midway through the 2017 season. He signed a reserve/future contract with Seattle in January 2018. Midway through the 2018 preseason schedule, Myers was waived by the Seahawks and claimed by the Jets the following day.
Myers was the Marist football team's primary placekicker from 2009-12. He graduated as the program's record holder for placekicker points, and still holds the Red Foxes' record for longest field goal. He is a 2013 Marist graduate.
