#20 Water Polo to Play in Loyola Marymount Invitational

Red Foxes Face Off with Wagner and Other Ranked Competition

LOS ANGELES, California - #20 Marist Water Polo (9-10) will travel to Los Angeles, California for a full weekend of games on March 15-16. On Friday evening at 7:45 p.m., the Red Foxes will face off with MAAC rivals #16 Wagner. This will mark the team's first conference game at a neutral site that is entirely deep water this season.

SATURDAY, MARCH 15
  • Marist vs. San Jose - 2:45 p.m.
  • Marist vs. Wagner - 7:45 p.m.
SUNDAY, MARCH 16
  • Marist vs. Pomona-Pitzer - 11:00 a.m.
  • Marist vs. Loyola Marymount - 5:15 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
 Marist swept their MAAC-opening doubleheader last weekend in Lexington, Virginia.
  • Marist defeated La Salle by scoring a season-high 24 points while holding the Explorers to 5. Grace Doerfler found the net four times to lead the team. Anais Mathes scored a hat trick and ten other Red Foxes finished with at least one goal.  
  • Marist earned their second victory of the day with a win over hosts Virginia Military Institute, topping them 13-5. Doerfler, ??????Myriam Lizotte and Katherine Tijerina scored two goals apiece to drive Marist's attack. Seven players each contributed a goal to lift the Red Foxes over the Keydets.
  • Goalkeeper Carsen Horvatich made 15 saves on the day for a save-percentage of .600.
Scouting the Competition
  • #19 San Jose State is 6-5 and currently on a two-game winning streak. They have only played two games against non-ranked teams so far this season. Two of their biggest wins have come over #10 UC Davis and #11 Long Beach State.
  • #16 Wagner is 14-5 so far this season, and on a seven-game win streak. Despite starting the season with three losses, the Seahawks have won 12 of their last 13 games. Wagner is also 2-0 in MAAC play with dominating wins over St. Francis Brooklyn and Iona.
  • #12 Loyola Marymount is 9-7 through 16 games. The Lions have swept T-#17 Long Beach State and T-#17 UC San Diego in two meetings each.
  • DIII #1 Pomona-Pitzer is 7-8 on the season. The Sagehens won five games in a row to end February, but are 3-3 in their last six with close losses to #9 UC Santa Barbara and #23 Azusa Pacific.
Up Next
Marist will travel to Staten Island, New York for the Seahawk Invite as the MAAC season begins in earnest. The Red Foxes will compete against Villanova and Iona on March 23. before taking on St. Francis Brooklyn and Siena on March 24.
