Marist Softball Set For West Coast Road Trip

Red Foxes To Play 14 Games In Nine Days In California & Nevada

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team has a busy schedule ahead of them, as the Red Foxes head out west for their annual Spring Break road-trip. First, they will compete in the Capital Classic from March 15-17, hosted by Sacramento State. From there, they will play a series of non-conference doubleheaders throughout the course of the following week. They will take on the likes of Saint Mary's College of California, the University of Nevada, the University of the Pacific, and the University of California Davis.
 
 
Last Time Out
The Red Foxes participated in the Charleston Invitational, going 2-3 overall in the tournament. Following the set of games, Marist's overall record fell to 5-6. The team was able to defeat Bryant and Youngstown State, but fell to North Carolina State, Rhode Island, and the College of Charleston. After striking out 24 in 16 innings without allowing an earned run, Calista Phippen was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Week.
 
 
Capital Classic
Marist will play six games in the tournament, against the likes of Fairleigh Dickinson, Sacramento State, UC Davis, and Santa Clara. The Red Foxes open up against Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Then at 5:30 p.m., they will take on Sacramento State. On Saturday, Marist again will take on Fairleigh Dickinson at 12:30 p.m., this time followed by UC Davis at 5:30 p.m. On Sunday, Marist will have a rematch against Sacramento State at 1 p.m., and then will close out the tournament with a game against Santa Clara right after at 3:30.
 
Marist's games against Sacramento State on both Friday and Sunday will be video streamed, as will both of the Red Foxes' Saturday contests against Fairleigh Dickinson and UC Davis.
 
 
Scouting The Capital Classic
  • Fairleigh Dickinson is 5-14 so far this season, most recently losing two games to California on Wednesday, March 13. The Knights are led by Reanna Cervantes (.311 AVG, three doubles) and Abby England (2-2, 4.55 ERA)
  • Sacramento State is 11-10 this season, most recently losing 4-0 at UC Davis on Tuesday, March 12. The Hornets are led by Alas Nene (.381 AVG, 19 runs, eight SB's) and Savanna Corr (8-6, 1.43 ERA).
  • UC Davis is on fire, as the Aggies are 18-4 overall, including seven straight wins, most recently defeating Sacramento State 4-0 on Tuesday, March 12. UC Davis is led by Meghan Bradbury (.379 AVG, five HRs, 24 RBIs) and Brooke Yanez (12-1, 1.45 ERA).
  • Santa Clara is 4-13 in 2019, most recently going 1-4 in the Silicon Valley Classic from March 22-24. The Broncos are led by Sammy Needham (.435 AVG, .527 OBP, .652 SLG) and Regan Dias (3-3, 3.61 ERA).
 
 
Next Week's Doubleheaders
Following the conclusion of the Capital Classic, the Red Foxes will travel to Reno, Nevada for a doubleheader against the University of Nevada on Tuesday, March 19. First pitch of game one is set for 4 p.m. The next day, Marist will return to California for a doubleheader against Saint Mary's College of California on Wednesday, March 20, with a start time scheduled for 5 p.m. The Red Foxes will then remain in California over the weekend and will close out the trip with two more doubleheaders. Marist will take on the University of the Pacific on Friday, March 22 beginning at 8 p.m., and then the University of California Davis on Saturday, March 23, beginning at 4 p.m.
 
 
Scouting Foes
  • Nevada is currently 13-8 this season, most recently sweeping a doubleheader against Saint Mary's College of California on Sunday, March 10. The wolfpack are led by Kenzi Goins (.350 AVG, four HRs, 16 RBIs) and Julia Jensen (6-1, 2.96 ERA).
  • Saint Mary's College of California is 3-14 in 2019, most recently getting swept by Nevada in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 10, as noted above. The Gaels are led by Abbey Mariani (.286 AVG, .400 OBP, 13 TB) and Sofia Earle (1-3, 6.10 ERA).
  • University of the Pacific is currently 8-12 on the season, most recently sweeping a doubleheader against Bucknell on Wednesday, March 13. The Tigers are led by Jessica Mabrey (.275 AVG, three HRs, 10 RBIs) and Hailey Reed (4-4, 2.09 ERA).
  • This will be the second and third game in a week that the Red Foxes will play against UC Davis.
 
 
Up Next
The Red Foxes open MAAC play with a pair of doubleheaders against Fairfield (Saturday, March 30) and Iona (Sunday, March 31). These will be the first games held at Gartland Field this season. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon on both days.
