LOS ANGELES, California - Marist water polo (10-11, 2-1 MAAC) won one and lost one on the first day of competition at the LMU Invitational. The #20 Red Foxes first earned an upset over #19 San Jose State to add to their list of ranked wins this season. Later in the evening, Marist went goal-for-goal with #16 Wagner until the very last second when the Seahawks won on a buzzer-beater.
 

SAN JOSE STATE SUMMARY

• Marist was ahead most of the game, leading by as much as 9-4 over the Spartans.
• However, San Jose State made a late push to tie the game at 9 and force overtime. 
• Anais Mathes' goal in the fifth period put Marist ahead 10-9 and sealed the win.
• Mathes, Grace Doerfler and Myriam Lizotte each scored twice for the Red Foxes.
• Justine Castro, Jocelyn Castro, Susan Cantoni and Carolyn Gauvin each added a point to put Marist over the Spartans.
• Carsen Horvatich made seven saves in the net to hold down the San Jose State offense.

WAGNER SUMMARY

• The Red Foxes and Seahawks went back and forth the entire game to tie at 10 until the very last second when Wagner's Kristy Donkin scored the game-winner.
• Doerfler, Ariana Singer and Katherine Tijerina each contributed two goals.
• Mathes, Lizotte, Cantoni and Justine Castro added a point apiece to take the five-time defending MAAC champions down to the wire.
• Horvatich made 13 saves for a stellar 54.2 save percentage against the #16 Seahawks.
• The Red Foxes shot 47.6 percent compared to Wagner's 35.5 percent. Seahawk goalkeeper Katherine Campbell only blocked two shots throughout the contest.
