#21 Water Polo Drops Two Close Matches on Day One of Wolverine Invite

Red Foxes Fall to #15 Long Beach State and #14 UCSD by One Point Each

ANN ARBOR, Michigan - Marist water polo nearly upset two top-15 teams in the NCAA on the first day of the Wolverine Invitational, but nevertheless were defeated.

LONG BEACH STATE 10, MARIST 9

Myriam Lizotte led the team with three goals, her third hat-trick of the season.
Anais Mathes scored two goals and tallied a team-high two assists.
Grace Doerfler, Katherine Tijerina, Carolyn Gauvin, and Kathryn McCullough each added one goal.
Susan Cantoni swiped four steals.
Marina Hyham had 11 saves in the goal.
As a team, Marist shot 9-of-25 (36%)

UCSD 9, MARIST 8

Justine Castro led the team with two goals, two assists and two steals.
Doerfler and Mathes each scored twice for the Red Foxes.
Ariana Singer and Lizotte contributed a goal each
Carsen Horvatich made seven saves in the net for a save-percentage of 43.8.

UP NEXT

The team returns to action tomorrow to play #6 Pacific (10:00 AM) and #13 Fresno State (1:30 PM).
