Softball Opens MAAC Schedule This Weekend

Red Foxes Host Fairfield Saturday, Iona Sunday

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team opens up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play this weekend, with home doubleheaders against Fairfield on Saturday and Iona on Sunday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon at Gartland Field each day.
 
Heading into MAAC play, the Red Foxes own a 13-14 overall record, and are currently riding a two-game winning streak.
 
Last Time Out
  • Marist closed out a string of 27 games away from Gartland Field with a doubleheader sweep over the Holy Cross Crusaders on Wednesday. The Red Foxes defeated Holy Cross 5-1 in game one, and then went on to win game two by the exact same score.
  • Freshman Calista Phippen and senior Kallen Leeseberg each threw one-hitters, helping guide Marist to victory in both games. For Phippen, she improved her record to 8-1 in her rookie campaign, while lowering her ERA to an impressive 1.46.
  • Sophomore Caroline Baratta led the way on offense, going a combined 5-for-8 on the day, including a double, two triples, three runs scores, a stolen base, and two RBIs.
  • As a team, the Red Foxes stole 12 bases in the doubleheader.
 
Scouting Fairfield
  • The Stags are currently 12-10 on the season, and are 6-4 in away games. The Stags have lost six straight. These will also be the first MAAC games of the year for Fairfield.
  • Amanda Ulzheimer leads the Stags with a .404 batting average.
  • Katie Kudlacik owns a 3.39 ERA in 53.2 innings, and has struck out 40 batters while walking just seven.
 
Scouting Iona
  • The Gaels own a 4-14 overall record this season, although they are currently on a three-game winning streak heading into this weekend.
  • Jessica Chilcott leads the offensive attack for Iona, leading the team with a .333 batting average and five doubles, while she is tied for the team lead with one homer and six RBIs.
  • Kara Zazzaro is the ace for the Gaels, pitching to the tune of a 1.51 ERA so far this season, while striking out 49 batters in 60.1 innings pitched. Zazzaro is the reigning MAAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week.

  • The Red Foxes close out their six-game home stand with a non-conference doubleheader against Hartford on Thursday.
  • First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
