Men’s Lacrosse Takes Down St. Bonaventure

The Red Foxes Clinched a Spot in the MAAC Tournament

.POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men's lacrosse won its final regular season home game with an 11-5 victory over St. Bonaventure. With the win, Marist improves to 7-5 overall and clinched a spot in the MAAC tournament.
 
SUMMARY
  • The Bonnies pounced on a 2-0 lead within the first five minutes of the game. Marist equalized, with Hunter Embury having a hand in back to back goals just 40 seconds apart from each other. Neither team could reclaim a lead in the quarter with both teams turning the ball over several times.
  • Both sides of the ball were clicking for Marist with the offense scoring five goals and the defense shutting the Bonnies down in the quarter. Chris Schlappich bookended the run in the second quarter and three other players scored in between. The defense limited the Bonnies to just four shots with only one being a shot on goal.
  • Marist continued its run into the third quarter, tallying two more goals to take its largest lead of the day at 9-2. St. Bonaventure stopped the bleeding with a goal midway through the third quarter.
  • The Red Foxes were able to ride a six point lead heading into the final frame. Jamison Embury took the feed from his brother Hunter Embury to increase the lead to 11-4. Senior captain Kevin McKendry was able to make the final play of the game, saving a shot from the Bonnies.
 
STATS
  • Seniors helped anchor another iron strong defensive effort. Ralph Sommers and James Sarrocco had three caused turnovers while Sarrocco added seven ground balls. Matthew Selts added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Marist was a perfect 22-for-22 on clear attempts.
  • Peyton Smith went 15-for-20 from the face-off and picked up 10 ground balls.
  • Hunter Embury had four points from two goals and two assists.
  • Marist outshot St. Bonaventure 53-23
  • All seniors saw action during the game

Marist will face #6 Virginia Saturday April 20 at 3:00 PM to wrap up its nonconference schedule.
