Softball Hosts MAAC-Leader Monmouth

The Series will be a Clash of Two Top Programs in the Conference

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team's doubleheader against the Monmouth Hawks that was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 20 is now set for Friday, April 19. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
 
Heading into the series, Marist is 24-19 overall and 9-3 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes currently sit in third place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, two games behind Monmouth who holds first place.

ABOUT MARIST
  • Last time out, Marist split a mid-week, MAAC doubleheader with the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Wednesday, April 18. The Red Foxes defeated Quinnipiac 4-2 in game one, but then fell 6-0 in game two.
  • Freshman Calista Phippen went the distance in game one, and improved her record to 14-3. Phippen allowed just four hits and one walk, and struck out five. 
  • Senior Megan Beiermeister held the Bobcats scoreless for the first four innings of game two, but Quinnipiac struck for five runs in the bottom of the fifth, and the Red Foxes could not recover.
  • Junior Ali Milam went a combined 5-7 on the day, including a double and two RBIs.
ABOUT MONMOUTH
  • The Hawks are 27-13 overall on the season, which includes an 11-1 mark in the MAAC, as well as a 9-2 record in away games.
  • Last time out, Monmouth fell to Lafayette 7-2 on Wednesday, April 17. Prior to the loss, the Hawks had won six straight games, including three straight shutouts.
  • Kayla Rosado leads Monmouth with a .370 average and 28 RBIs. Rosado also is hitting .514 in MAAC games this season. Lindsey Baron has slugged eight homers already this season, and leads the Hawks with 44 hits, 41 runs scored, and 16 doubles.
  • Alyssa Irons anchors the pitching staff, having accounted for 21 of Monmouth's 27 wins. Irons has pitched to the tune of a 1.37 ERA this season, and has held the opposition to a .179 average. 23 of her 30 appearances have resulted in complete games, and she has 160 strikeouts in 178.1 innings.
