#22 Water Polo Finishes Regular Season at Brown

Red Foxes Will Attempt to Go Out with a Bang After Another Successful Season

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island - Marist Water Polo (21-14, 12-2 MAAC) will travel to Providence, Rhode Island for their last regular season competition of the year on April 20. The matchup will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Marist traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take part in a weekend of action that had Marist facing four different opponents on April 13-14. Marist came home with four large margins of victory.  
  • Marist defeated Siena College by outscoring them 12-6. Carsen Horvatich blocked five shots for a save percentage of 45.5 in the net. The Red Foxes fired 28 shots on 42.9 percent shooting while holding the Saints to 21 shots on 28.6 percent shooting.
  • Marist found themselves with a second victory of the day over St. Francis College Brooklyn in a 16-8 defeat of the Terriers. Captain Grace Doerfler tallied a hat trick with three drawn exclusions to lead the team. Lauren Smith, Anais Mathes and Susan Cantoni each scored a pair to contribute to the team total.
  • Marist won big for the third time of the weekend, defeating Iona College and scoring seven goals in the first period while shutting out the Gaels to start off with a big lead. Iona was held to 17.2 percent shooting for the game. The final score was 13-5.
  • Marist completed the sweep of the competition against Villanova. With a whopping 26-8 victory over the Wildcats, Marist completed a weekend going 4-0. The charge was led by an unstoppable Grace Doerfler with six goals on six shots.
Scouting the Competition
  • Brown University is 18-12 having most recently won against Saint Francis University 12-3 last weekend.   
  • The team is 3-3 in their last six competitions.
  •  They lost to Marist earlier in the season 7-4.
  • They are 5-2 at home. Brown must account for Marist's six game winning streak when they host the Red Foxes.
  • Their biggest loss this year came against No. 6 University of Michigan. It was a 21-2 defeat for Brown midway through the season.
Up Next
#2 seed Marist hosts the MAAC Championships, and will face #3 in the first round. The match will take place at the McCann Natatorium on Saturday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. The winner will move on to play the winner of #1 Wagner and #4 Virginia Military Institute on April 28 at 2 p.m.
