BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, New York - Marist water polo (16-13, 7-2 MAAC) earned a win and a loss on the first day of the St. Francis Invitational. The Red Foxes began the day with a 16-12 loss to the Wagner Seahawks, but came back for a 17-11 decision over the La Salle Explorers.
 

WAGNER SUMMARY

• The teams were neck-and-neck with five lead changes up until the end of the third period, and then Wagner outscored Marist 4-2 in the final period take the game.
• Susan Cantoni recorded three goals and an assist to pace the Red Foxes.
• Anais Mathes and Grace Doerfler tallied two goals, an assist and a drawn exclusion each.
• Aminadi Anorve, Lauren Smith, Justine Castro, Ariana Singer and Myriam Lizotte scored a goal each for Marist.
• Carsen Horvatich made six saves and grabbed two steals in the net.

LA SALLE SUMMARY

• Marist led wire-to-wire over La Salle, allowing only a single point in the first period and scoring six in the fourth.
• Grace Doerfler and Anais Mathes scored a hat trick apiece to lift the Red Foxes over the Explorers.
• Lauren Smith and Sawyer Alter tallied a pair of goals each.
• Justine Castro, Susan Cantoni, Bree Marmion, Katherine Tijerina, Lexi Puhl, Gabi Gervasi and Carolyn Gauvin all found the net once to put away La Salle.
• Marina Hyham was stellar in the goal, blocking ten shots for a save percentage of 47.6 percent and ripping away a steal.
