Women’s Tennis Completes Day One Of Bucknell Invite

Four Red Foxes Advance To Winner’s Bracket In Singles

LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania – Marist Women's Tennis wrapped the first day of the Bucknell Invite on Friday, September 20 as four Red Foxes moved to the winner's bracket in singles play.
 
C SINGLES
  • Junior Sophia Chavarria overcame Mount St. Mary's' Megan Smith 6-2, 2-6, 10-6 in the fourth match of the bracket.
 
D SINGLES
  • Senior Amy Galloway roared past the Mountaineers' Karen Anderson 6-0, 6-0 in the bracket's second match.
  • Junior Sam Galu also took care of Katie Schisler of Mount St. Mary's 6-0, 6-0.
  • Senior Jada Tijani advanced on a default in the opening round of the bracket.

DEBUTS
  • Freshmen Vanessa Ciano and Nina McAllan made their Marist debuts in singles and doubles.
  • Ciano fell in her opening match of the B Singles to Bucknell's Paige Leavy.
  • McAllan couldn't overcome Villanova's Taylor Gould in the second match of the C Singles.
  • Ciano and Chavarria, as well as McAllan and Galloway, dropped their first B Doubles contests.
 
UP NEXT
  • In the C Singles semifinals, Chavarria faces Villanova's Sabina Grigorian.
  • Tijani and Galloway meet in the top-half of the D Singles semifinals, while Galu battles Chloe Zilkha of Bucknell.
