POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Director of Tennis
Gary Sussman has officially announced
Vanessa Ciano and
Nina McAllan as the two newest student-athletes for Marist Women's Tennis.
"The women are looking forward to the fall campaign," commented Sussman. "We lost our number three and four singles players from last year's squad, but I expect strong contributions from our two freshman,
Vanessa Ciano and
Nina McAllan. We have a very solid nucleus back, including our number one and two players,
Julia Gabay and
Madison Price. I believe we are in position to have a successful season."
- Vanessa Ciano arrives to Poughkeepsie form Westchester, NY.
- A three-star recruit, she ranked as high as 70th in the Girls 18's Eastern Region.
- She was the 2017 and 2018 NYSPHSAA state champion in doubles, and a four-time state finalist for The Ursuline School.
- She was named All-State, All-Section 1, and All-Conference in all four years of high school.
- In her freshman year, she was named both the Player and Rookie of the Year for Westchester/Putnam County.
- Off the court, Ciano was a four-year member of the National Honor Society. She plans to major in Biology at Marist.
- Though a native of Sydney, Australia, Nina McAllan played high school tennis at Ramsey High School in Ramsey, NJ.
- She is a two-time Bergen County Tennis Champion who helped captain her team to its first-ever team tennis title during her senior year.
- She ranked as high as ninth for girls in New Jersey, and was nominated for the NJ.com Athlete of the Year for Girl's Tennis.
- In the classroom, she was inducted into both the National Honor Society and National Language Honor Society.
Ciano and McAllan brings the 2019-20 Women's Tennis rosters to eight players, with six returning student-athletes.
Marist Women's Tennis opens the fall slate at the Bucknell Invitational. The three-day event begins on Friday, September 20.
