HONOLULU, Hawaii – #23 Marist water polo opened the 2020 season at the Rainbow Invite with three games against high level competition. Though the Red Foxes fought hard, they fell to #14 Fresno State, #12 Loyola Marymount and #6 Hawaii.
 

Marist 5, Fresno State 9

• Freshman Shinae Carrington scored twice and tallied a steal in her collegiate debut to lead Marist.
• Anais Mathes, Gabi Gervasi and Myriam Lizotte each added a goal in the Red Foxes' offensive efforts.
• Carsen Horvatich saved 11 shots for a save percentage of 55.0 while grabbing a steal.
• The Bulldogs used a strong first quarter to jump into the lead 4-1, and the Red Foxes were unable to close the gap despite outscoring Fresno state 2-1 in the fourth.

MARIST 8, LMU 14

• India Alter recorded two goals and a steal against the Lions.
• Katelin Harris scored twice in the second to keep the Red Foxes close at halftime.
• Kathryn McCullough, Sawyer Alter, Myriam Lizotte and Viktoria Orlova each contributed a goal to add to the team scoring.
• Marina Hyham made seven saves against the Lions' strong attack.
• Marist trailed just 5-4 at the half, but Loyola Marymount gained a 10-5 lead in the third to pull away for the win.

MARIST 8, Hawaii 22

• Viktoria Orlova recorded a hat trick against the #6 Rainbow Warriors, while Shinae Carrington dished out three assists.
• Bree Marmion, Lauren Smith, Anais Mathes, India Alter and Kathryn McCullough all found the net against the hosting team.
• Freshman Emily Hilliard made her first appearance in the net in the second half, and made four saves.
• The Red Foxes were able to find some success on offense, but ultimately could not keep up with Hawaii's scoring.

UP NEXT

Marist travels to the Wolverine Invitational on January 25-26 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Red Foxes are set to play Preseason #11 UC Santa Barbara, #9 Pacific, #2 UCLA and #23T Indiana.
