Water Polo Prepares for Wolverine Invitational

#24 Red Foxes Head to Michigan for Second Tournament of the Season

ANN ARBOR, Michigan - #24 Marist water polo departs for the midwest this weekend to take part in the Wolverine Invitational. The Red Foxes are ready to fight and have a talented lineup of opponents on the schedule: #9 UC Santa Barbara, #11 Pacific, #5 UCLA and #23 Indiana.

Saturday, January 25
  • 11:45 a.m. - UC Santa Barbara
  • 5 p.m. - Pacific
Sunday, January 26
  • 10:30 a.m. - UCLA
  • 4:15 p.m. - Indiana
LAST TIME OUT
  • Marist played in the Rainbow Invite and faced #4 Hawaii, #13 Fresno State and #16 Loyola Marymount.
  • Shinae Carrington led the team in points with two goals, three assists and three steals. She was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for her stellar showing.
  • Viktoria Orlova performed well in her first tournament as a Red Fox with four goals. She scored a hat trick against the hosting Rainbow Warriors.
  • Freshman India Alter also played well in her first collegiate games with three goals, an assist and a steal.
  • In the net, Carsen Horvatich tallied 11 saves and two steals over two games.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
  • #9 UC Santa Barbara went 3-2 at their first tournament of the season which they hosted. They picked up wins over then-#2 UCLA, Ottawa and Iona. 
  • In #11 Pacific's first game of the season, they picked up a 13-12 decision over Sonoma State. Savannah Fitzgerald tallied four goals for the Tigers to lift them to victory.
  • #5 UCLA went 4-1 in their season-opening tournament, with their lone loss coming to the aforementioned Gauchos. They knocked off #19 Cal-State Northridge, #8 UC San Diego, Iona and Ottawa. 
  • The #23 Hoosiers have yet to begin the season, but went 6-17 in 2019. Tina Doherty led Indiana as a freshman with 42 goals, 19 assists, 36 steals and seven field blocks.
UP NEXT
The Red Foxes travel to Rhode Island for the Bruno Classic. They will have games set against #22 Bucknell and DIII #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
