POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - #24 Marist polo was defeated in two games against #9 UC Santa Barbara and #11 Pacific on the first day of the Wolverine Invitational. The Red Foxes held leads over both of these high-level teams, but ultimately could not hold on for wins.
 

UC SANTA BARBARA 11, MARIST 6

• Marist jumped ahead 2-0 to start the game, but was unable to match the Gauchos' pace over four periods.
• Sawyer Alter scored twice to lead the offense.
• Viktoria Orlova and Shinae Carrington each recorded a goal and an assist.
• Lauren Smith and Fallon Burnworth both found the net to add to Marist's scoring.
• Carsen Horvatich stopped 10 shots for a save percentage of .476 against the #9 Gauchos.

 

PACIFIC 12, Marist 11

• It was a close game throughout, and the Red Foxes led 9-8 heading into the fourth. The Tigers managed to pull ahead as the clock ran down.
• Myriam Lizotte tallied a hat trick with a steal to pace Marist. 
• Shinae Carrington and Gabi Gervasi added two goals each.
• Viktoria Orlova, Jenn Murphy, Katie Gill and Carolyn Gauvin all beat the defense to fuel the near-upset.
• Marina Hyham guarded the net and stopped 10 shots against the Tigers.
