ANN ARBOR, Michigan - #24 Marist water polo played well against tough competition at the Wolverine Invite, but ultimately could not cause any upsets. The Red Foxes fell to #5 UCLA and dropped a close game to #23 Indiana to end the weekend.
 

UCLA 14, MARIST 4

• Facing their toughest team of the young season, the Red Foxes fought hard but were defeated by the perennial NCAA-Championship contender.
• Myriam Lizotte and Gabi Gervasi both scored in the first period against the #5 Bruins.
• Justine Castro and Shinae Carrington added goals in the third period.
• Emily Hilliard guarded the net in the second half, and stopped four shots against the PAC-12 powerhouse.

INDIANA 10, MARIST 8

• The Red Foxes outplayed the Hoosiers through the first half and entered the fourth tied, but went through a scoring drought in the final period and the upset slipped away.
• Reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week Shinae Carrington recorded four goals and a steal to drive the offense.
• Viktoria Orlova scored twice and grabbed a steal as well against Indiana.
• Fallon Burnworth (one goal, two assists) and Carolyn Gauvin (one goal, one assist) both found ways to contribute to the scoring.
• Marina Hyham tallied eight saves and an assist in her second full game of the weekend.

UP NEXT

Marist travels to Rhode Island for the Bruno Classic on February 1. They have games slated against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Bucknell.
