POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The women's tennis program has signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to make up the Marist Class of 2025, the program officially announced on Monday.
Lea Lambert, Andriana Zaphiris, and Ellen Zureick officially signed before the Thanksgiving holidays, and will enroll at Marist in the fall of 2021.
"We couldn't be happier to welcome Lea, Andriana, and Ellen to campus next fall as the newest members of the women's tennis team," said Director of Tennis
Gary Sussman. "All three are very solid players with huge upsides, and together add significantly to the strength and depth of the roster."
5-10 | Raleigh, NC | Ravenscroft High School
- Lea Lambert boasts a UTR of 7.4, and is ranked 10th in the state of North Carolina on Babolat's recruiting list.
- In addition to playing at Ravenscroft High School, she was a member of the Raleigh Racquet Club.
- Lambert's favorite shot is a topspin lob, and she describes her baseline game as "aggressive".
- Outside of tennis, she was the quarterback in her school's powderpuff football game.
5-5 | Smithtown, NY | Hauppauge High School
- Andriana Zaphiris maintains a UTR of 8, and is ranked 16th in the state of New York on Babolat's recruiting list.
- Playing varsity tennis at Hauppauge High School since the eighth grade, she is a two-time team captain, and has been named the Eagles' team MVP for the past four seasons.
- Zaphiris is a three-time All-Suffolk County selection who earned a spot on the NYPHSAA State Tournament last year after reaching the Suffolk County Tournament semifinals. She picked up a win in the opening round of the state tournament.
- She trained at Sportime Kings Park as well as the John McEnroe Academy in Kings Park and New York City, respectively.
5-7 | Burlington, KY | Randall K. Cooper High School
- Ellen Zureick is a three-star recruit according to the Tennis Recruiting Network.
- Babolat's recruiting list ranks her fifth in the state of Kentucky, as she holds a 7.36 UTR.
- The Cincinnati Enquirer named Zureick the Singles Player of the Year in her sophomore year after winning the Ninth Region Tournament, a feat she's accomplished twice.
- She has played tennis since she was five years old, and trained at the Five Seasons Family Sports Club. Her father played college basketball at the University of the South in Sewanee.
