#24 Water Polo Departs for Harvard Invitational

Red Foxes to Face Ivy League Foes #17 Harvard and RV Brown

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts - #24 Marist water polo gears up to compete in the Harvard Invite on Saturday, March 7. The Red Foxes will first match up against #17 Harvard, and RV Brown later in the evening in their first games since February 22.

Last Time Out
  • Marist hosted the Courtney Fisher Invite against #18 Wagner and LIU on February 22 for their senior night.
  • The Red Foxes fell short to Wagner, 10-12, after losing the lead in the fourth quarter.
  • Anais Mathes and Viktoria Orlova both recorded hat tricks to lead Marist.
  • Keeper Carsen Horvtich stopped six shots on goal in the first half, while Maria Hyham stopped four in the second.
  • Marist overpowered LIU in their second game, 16-8, as the Red Foxes scored seven goals in the fourth, holding the Sharks to just one point.

Scouting the Competition
  • #17 Harvard is currently 10-1 overall, coming off a five game win streak.
  • Senior captain Sofia Carrera-Justiz led the Crimson in scoring in their last game against Wagner.
  • Carrera-Justiz also had two assists (17 in total this season), which aided in her 156 career assists, leaving her just two shy of reaching the second-most in program history.
  • Junior Quinne Pursell has scored in the past seven games.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Banks secured 11 saves against Wagner, her second-highest save total this season.
  • RV Brown is currently 9-1 overall with a two-game win streak.
  • The Bears defeated both Mercyhurst (13-4) and La Salle (13-10) at the Courtney Fisher Invite.
  • Claire Pisani scored a hat trick with two steals against Mercyhurst, while Kaitlyn Cook had a hat trick, one assist, and one steal.
  • Carissa Perez had a hat trick, two assists, and one steal herself against La Salle, as Lexi Atwell added two goals, two steals and an assist.
 The Harvard Invite is comprised of 12 teams, with six of those programs appearing on the most recent CWPA DI Top 25 rankings.
