POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The 2021 Marist women's lacrosse spring schedule was officially revealed on Thursday afternoon. This year's slate features 12 games against MAAC opponents, including six contests at Tenney Stadium.
"Let me first start out by saying that we could not be more grateful for the opportunity to compete against our conference opponents," Head Coach Jessica Wilkinson said. "Although we would like to have a traditional non-conference season, this unique schedule gives us all an opportunity to do what we love - playing for a championship - and that alone gives our team an immense amount of motivation. This season will undoubtedly be unlike any other and the team is aware of the multitude of challenges that await, both on and off the field. Thankfully, we have both returning and new leadership in this year's group that have already showcased a level of maturity and drive that will be needed for this season's success."
As Wilkinson mentioned, due to COVID-19 restrictions, Marist will not play any non-conference games. The schedule this year will be limited to MAAC opponents. Times for all of these events will be finalized at a later date, along with a determination on spectator presence at these games.
The Red Foxes will open the year with a pair of home games, first against the Manhattan Jaspers on Mar. 6, and then against Monmouth on Mar. 12.
The following weekend, Marist will go on its annual Buffalo trip, although it looks slightly different this year. On Mar. 19, the Red Foxes take on Canisius, and then will square off against the Golden Griffins in a rematch the very next day.
Marist will then return home for a three game home stand, first taking on Iona on Mar. 26 at Tenney Stadium. Then, the next weekend, Niagara makes the trip to Poughkeepsie for a doubleheader weekend. The Red Foxes will host the Purple Eagles for two games, first on Apr. 2 and then a rematch on Apr. 3.
The next weekend, Marist will be spending its weekend in Albany, NY as they have two scheduled games against the Siena Saints. The teams will face off on Apr. 16, and then play a second game just two days later on Apr. 18.
The Red Foxes will then head to Fairfield, CT for a game against the Stags on Apr. 24, before returning back to Poughkeepsie for another duel against Siena on Apr. 28. Marist will then close out the regular season with a contest against the Quinnipiac Bobcats on May 1.
The MAAC Tournament will take place from May 7-9 this season. The host and format of this year's postseason is yet to be determined.
