POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist water polo team defeated the Siena Saints 15-14 on Wednesday evening.
With the win, Marist goes to 1-0 on the season. Meanwhile, Siena drops to 0-7 on the year.
- The Red Foxes scored the first goal of the game, but Siena answered with a 4-0 run to take a 4-1 lead early in the first period.
- Marist fought back, and tied the game at five by the end of the first quarter.
- The Red Foxes controlled the second quarter, outscoring Siena 5-3 and takin a 10-8 lead into halftime.
- The Saints traded goals with Marist in the third quarter, as each team scored three each. The Red Foxes took a 13-11 lead into the final period.
- Siena scored first in the fourth quarter, but the Red Foxes quickly answered with a goal just 13 seconds later to preserve the two-goal lead.
- With two minutes remaining in the game, Siena trimmed the deficit to just one goal, and then 14 seconds later tied the game at 14.
- Marist scored the game-winning goal with a 1:43 left on the clock, earning the 15-14 victory.
The Red Foxes are back in the pool tomorrow, traveling to New Rochelle for a bout against Iona. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
